Specify finishing as a set of deliberate operations on an agreed printed item. Lamination changes a surface, folding changes the shape, holes create an attachment or binding relationship, and selected varnish changes particular areas. A decorative reference image does not define all of those operations automatically.
For an EZ Print enquiry, explain the effect you want and how the completed item will be used. Ask which exact combination can be assessed before the artwork depends on it.
Start with the functional requirement
List writing, stamping, folding, handling and attachment needs. Mark the areas that must perform those tasks. A shiny appearance may suit a visual brief while being a separate question from whether someone can write on the chosen finished surface.
If you already have printed pieces and need finishing assessed, say so. Identify the existing material and condition where known. Do not assume a process available for a complete new print job can be applied in the same way to another finished item.
Distinguish overall and selected treatments
State whether a finish covers the whole face or selected artwork areas. Describe the intended effect in plain language and ask for the actual file requirements. Keep the printed image and any treatment information distinguishable in the approval reference.
Adobe’s spot-swatch instructions show how a spot colour is represented in artwork. That software feature does not establish the mask naming, production method or accepted format for a particular finish. Obtain the job-specific instructions and check that the final export carries the agreed information.
Plan folds with the completed construction
Give open size, finished size and fold direction. Mark text and images that cross a fold. Request the confirmed layout rather than assuming the panel widths and fold clearances from an unrelated template.
Discuss the whole material combination, including any surface treatment. A manufacturer’s paper specification lists thickness separately from weight, illustrating why a weight label alone cannot settle physical fit. The referenced stock is not claimed as an EZ Print supply option.
Make punching and attachment precise
Show the number, position and purpose of holes. Explain what must fit through or connect to them. If the print goes into an existing binder or holder, provide the actual reference and measurements rather than only a generic binding name.
Keep essential text away from the confirmed punched area. State whether the enquiry includes attachments or only the prepared printed item. A photograph showing a ribbon, ring or fastener is a reference, not confirmation that the accessory is included.
Check the finished interaction
Use an ordinary dummy to review reading order, writing areas and attachments. If a physical sample is needed to judge a particular surface effect, ask how the proposed construction can be assessed. A digital mockup can communicate intention while leaving texture and behaviour unresolved.
Keep a written list of the agreed operations with the final artwork revision. If a finish changes, review affected functions rather than treating it as a visual substitution only.

Confirm actual availability, file instructions and included components. The most useful finish is one that supports the item’s purpose and is described clearly enough to approve.
