Give a small printed piece one clear job. A postcard may carry a short message and a response route; a bookmark needs to sit comfortably in a book while keeping its useful information readable. A compact format benefits from deliberate priorities, not simply a reduced version of a large poster.

For an EZ Print enquiry, explain how the item will be handed over, written on or kept. Those actions help define the layout and surface discussion.

Decide which side starts the conversation

Choose the information the reader sees first. On a postcard, a photograph might introduce the subject while the reverse carries a message. On a bookmark, the front and reverse may be equally visible in use, so either side should make sense without a long explanation.

Test the arrangement with a paper cutout at the intended finished size. Hold it as the recipient will. A composition that looks balanced on screen can feel crowded in the hand, especially when small text competes with an illustration.

Protect writing and functional areas

If the user will write a message, note or name, show that area in the brief. Ask for the material-and-finish combination to be assessed for the intended pen or stamp. A white space in the artwork does not automatically become a suitable writing surface after finishing.

If a postcard will enter a mailing process, obtain the applicable addressing and processing requirements from that service. This guide does not define postal layout rules or include a mailing service. Identify any separate production and distribution responsibilities before deciding where every element belongs.

Keep the response route understandable

A reader should know why to scan a code or follow a link. Pair the action with a short explanation, such as viewing a programme or checking an updated collection. Do not put several unrelated contact routes in the smallest area just because the full corporate footer exists elsewhere.

Check each destination in its final form and keep a readable fallback where appropriate. If the piece is intended to last beyond one campaign, think about who will maintain the linked content. A printed link is difficult to correct after distribution.

Plan edges, holes and unusual shapes

For a bookmark with a hole, ribbon or shaped end, request the confirmed construction before setting the essential text. Mark the attachment as a separate requirement. It should not be inferred from a sample photograph.

Adobe’s bleed guidance distinguishes edge artwork from the finished trim. Confirm the job’s allowance and keep important detail within the agreed safe area. A thin decorative border deserves special attention because small changes at the edge can affect its visual balance.

Proof the item in ordinary use

Place the checking bookmark in a book, or hold the postcard at a comfortable reading distance. Check the reverse orientation, especially if one side is landscape and the other portrait. Review names, dates and linked information independently of the image choice.

Describe finished size, quantities per design, printed sides, writing requirements and attachments in the request-for-quote brief. Use the product directory to identify the intended item. Exact stock and finishing options are confirmed for the job. A clear, useful compact piece is more persuasive than a miniature layout that asks the reader to decode everything.
