Viewing distance and mounting. How far away it is read from sets the type size and the resolution the file actually needs; what it is fixed to sets whether it survives a week or an afternoon.
EZ Print prints posters in Singapore, and has done since 2017. Standard sizes are A4 210 × 297 mm, A3 297 × 420 mm, A2 420 × 594 mm, A1 594 × 841 mm and A0 841 × 1189 mm, with custom sizes cut from the same rolls and sheets. Stocks are 157 gsm gloss art paper for indoor display, 310–350 gsm matt art card where the poster stands on its own, and 200 micron synthetic stock where it will meet moisture. Resolution is set by viewing distance rather than by size: 300 dpi at A3 and closer, 150 dpi at A1, and 100 dpi is honest on an A0 read from three metres. Posters can be laminated, mounted to foam PVC or board, and eyeletted. Standard turnaround is 7–14 working days, mounted or loose. Express is quoted per job. EZ Print quotes from the specification and does not publish prices.

Size, stock, quantity and what it is fixed to. The fourth is the one most often left out, and it is the one that decides whether the job is a print or a print plus a mount. The A4 sheet below is drawn at true physical size; every larger size is the same geometry scaled.
No poster is drawn here at true size, and the arithmetic is only half the reason: A4 is the smallest size on this page and it is already wider than this column. The better reason is that a poster is designed to be read from one to three metres, and a screen is read from about sixty centimetres — so a true-size poster on a screen would be a poster seen at the one distance it will never be seen at, which teaches the opposite of what the page is for. The figures that actually decide a poster are the resolution at each viewing distance and the smallest type that survives it, and both are stated below.
150dpi
Enough at A1, read from a metre and a half. Resolution is set by viewing distance, not by the size of the sheet — a 300 dpi A0 file is four times the data nobody will ever see.

The material
Stocks held for posters
A poster is chosen by where it will hang. Behind glass, almost any paper will do. On a wall in a corridor it will be brushed past; near a kitchen or a lift lobby it will meet moisture. The edges below are drawn at the measured caliper of the weight named.
0.13 mmCoating at 8×
Gloss art paper0.13 mm · 157 gsm
Also sold as gloss art, poster paper, coated text. Held at 128 and 157 gsm.
The default indoor poster. Rolls without cracking, lies flat once taped, and holds colour under fluorescent light.
Under ink
High chroma, and the coating keeps large solids even rather than mottled.
Best for
Retail promotions, event notices, anything replaced within a month.
Avoid for
Anywhere it will be handled repeatedly, or anywhere damp.
On the schedule
Held as a standing stock.
Matt art card0.36 mm · 350 gsm
Also sold as matt coated card, C2S matt. Held at 310, 350 and 400 gsm.
A poster that stands up on its own in a frame or on an easel without curling forward.
Under ink
No glare, which matters under downlights and in a photographed room.
Rolling for transport — a heavy card takes a set and will not lie flat again.
On the schedule
Held as a standing stock, and it prints without a lamination pass.
0.20 mmCoating at 8×
Synthetic stock0.20 mm · 200 micron
Also sold as synthetic paper, tear-resistant stock, PP sheet.
Not paper. It does not absorb water, does not tear along a fold, and does not go soft in humidity.
Under ink
Ink sits entirely on the surface, so it needs a moment longer before it can be stacked.
Best for
Lift lobbies, kitchens, wash areas, anywhere outdoors under cover.
Avoid for
Anything meant to be recycled with paper.
On the schedule
Held as a standing stock.
If the poster is going into a frame or a lightbox, say so with the enquiry — the stock changes, and a backlit poster on ordinary art paper looks grey rather than lit.The materials library →
Mounting is not lamination. Film protects the face; a board gives it rigidity. A poster can have one, both or neither, and each is priced and scheduled separately.
Lamination, mounting and eyelets, and what each one is for
A poster that will be up for a week needs nothing. A poster that will be up for a season needs film, because paper fades and scuffs. A poster that has to stand without a wall needs a board behind it, and that is a second material and a second operation.
Poster finishing: what each operation needs, and whether its tooling is kept for the reorder

Scroll the table sideways to see every column.
Every operation here is quoted inside the standard window. What changes between a first order and a second is the tooling: a die, a block or a screen is made once and then kept on file with your approved artwork, which is why the reorder of a job carrying one is a different job from the first.
The commonest poster mistake is a 300 dpi file at A0 — four times the data anyone will see, and a file too large to open on the day it is needed.
Pairings that work
+157 gsm gloss art paper, A1, unmounted, taped inside a frame. Fast, replaceable, and correct for anything on a monthly cycle.
+350 gsm matt art card, A2, matt laminated. Sits in an easel frame without curling and photographs without glare.
+Synthetic stock in a lift lobby or a wash area. It shrugs off the humidity that turns an art-paper poster wavy within a week.
+A1 mounted to foam PVC with corner eyelets. It hangs from a rail, stays flat, and survives being moved between rooms.
Combinations that fail
×A 300 dpi image at A0. It is four times the resolution the eye can use at three metres, and the file becomes too heavy to handle on the day it matters.
×Body copy at 12 pt on an A1 poster. Read from a metre and a half it is a grey smear; the smallest useful type at that distance is around 24 pt.
×A heavy matt card rolled for transport. It takes a set in the tube and will not lie flat again — send flat, or choose a lighter sheet.
×Unlaminated art paper anywhere near a kitchen, a lift lobby or an entrance. It goes wavy in Singapore humidity within days.
Sizes, and the viewing distance each is actually for
The A series halves at every step, so the proportion never changes and a design scales cleanly. What changes is the distance it is read from, and that is what should decide the type size and the file resolution.
A4 · 210 × 297 mm
A notice. Read at arm’s length, so 300 dpi and normal body copy.
A3 · 297 × 420 mm
A lift-lobby or counter notice. Read at about a metre. 300 dpi.
A2 · 420 × 594 mm
A shop window or corridor poster read at a metre and a half. 200 dpi.
A1 · 594 × 841 mm
The standard event poster. Read at two metres. 150 dpi, headline type from 60 pt.
A0 · 841 × 1189 mm
Read at three metres or more. 100 dpi is honest, and 24 pt is the smallest useful type.
Custom sizes
Cut to any size within the sheet or roll width. Say the finished size and whether it will be trimmed square.
Resolution is a function of distance, not of size
The single most useful thing to know about a poster file is how far away it will be read from. Everything else — the resolution, the smallest type, the weight of a hairline — follows from that one number, and supplying it saves a file being rebuilt.
The file
Format
PDF/X-4 at final size, or at a stated fraction of it with the scale written in the file name.
Artboard
Trim plus 3 mm bleed to A2, 5 mm at A1 and A0.
Safe margin
10 mm from the trim, and 25 mm where corner eyelets are being fitted.
Resolution
300 dpi to A3, 200 dpi at A2, 150 dpi at A1, 100 dpi at A0 at final size.
Fonts
Outlined, or fully embedded.
Cut path
A contour cut supplied as a closed vector path on a layer named CUT, in a spot colour.
The colour, and the detail
Colour mode
CMYK. Large flat brand colours are worth naming as Pantone references so they can be matched.
Rich black
C60 M40 Y40 K100 for large solids, total ink 240%.
Minimum type
24 pt at A1 and above. Below that it is decoration rather than communication.
Hairlines
0.5 pt minimum. A hairline that survives on screen disappears on paper at two metres.
Gradients
Build large gradients in CMYK rather than converting from RGB, or they band across a metre.
Backlit work
Say so. A poster lit from behind needs a denser build than one lit from the front.
If the file is enormous, send it at half size at double the resolution and say so in the file name. It scales exactly and it opens on the day it is needed.
Turnaround
The mount is the constraint, not the quantity
Standard
Standard turnaround is 7–14 working days.
Standard orders. The schedule for specialist finishing is confirmed in your quotation.
Express
Same-day printing available.
Subject to artwork, stock and production capacity confirmation. Timing is agreed for each job.
What sets the date
Handling, not quantity. A loose poster is printed and trimmed; a laminated one is filmed; a mounted one is bonded to a board and then trimmed again; an eyeletted one is punched. Every extra handling of every sheet is quoted inside the standard window.
What a reorder skips
A contour cut path, once drawn and proved, is kept with the approved file — so a shaped poster reprints from a cut that has already been trimmed and checked.
If the date is tight
Send the size, the stock, the quantity and what it is being fixed to, and ask for an express quotation. We confirm the specification, production schedule and next steps in the quotation.
The mount is the constraint, not the quantity: twenty mounted posters are more work than a hundred loose ones, because every sheet is handled twice more. Both are quoted inside the same window, and the fourth line of a poster specification — what it is being fixed to — is the one most often left out.
Every answer here is in the page source at full opacity, open or closed. An answer engine has to be able to read it without executing anything.
Questions asked about posters
What resolution should a poster file be?
It depends on the viewing distance, not on the size. 300 dpi at A3 and closer, 200 dpi at A2, 150 dpi at A1 and 100 dpi at A0 read from three metres. A 300 dpi A0 file carries four times the detail the eye can use at that distance and is usually too large to handle on the day it is needed.
What is the biggest poster you can print?
A0 at 841 × 1189 mm as a sheet size, and larger than that as a single piece on a roll. Above A0 the job becomes large-format printing and the substrate changes from paper to a vinyl, fabric or board.
How long does poster printing take in Singapore?
Standard turnaround is 7–14 working days, and it is the same window whether the poster is loose, laminated, mounted to a board or eyeletted. What those change is the handling — each is a separate pass over every sheet — rather than the window the job is quoted in. Where a date is tighter, ask for an express quotation with the size, the stock and what the poster is being fixed to.
What paper is best for posters?
157 gsm gloss art paper for indoor display on a monthly cycle. 310–350 gsm matt art card where the poster has to stand in a frame without curling. Synthetic stock anywhere it will meet moisture, because it does not absorb water and does not go wavy.
What is the smallest type that works on a large poster?
About 24 pt at A1 and above. At two metres, 12 pt body copy reads as a grey block. Headlines want 60 pt and up. If the text has to be read close, it belongs on a flyer beside the poster rather than on it.
Can you mount a poster onto a board?
Yes — foam PVC, foam board or fluted polypropylene, with or without corner eyelets. Mounting is a separate pass and it needs a wider safe margin, because a mounted edge is trimmed after it is bonded rather than before.
Why did my poster go wavy on the wall?
Uncoated or lightly coated paper takes up moisture from the air unevenly and expands where it is damp. In Singapore that happens within days near an entrance, a kitchen or a lift lobby. Laminate it, mount it to a board, or print it on synthetic stock.
Do you print posters for lightboxes?
Yes, but say the poster is backlit when you send the specification. A backlit print needs a denser ink build and usually a different substrate; the same file printed for front lighting looks grey and flat once it is lit from behind.
