Specify a header card or hang tag around the product it accompanies. A header card may fold over a bag opening; a hang tag may attach to a garment or another item. Measure the actual attachment and explain the intended assembly before choosing the finished artwork size.
These pieces often look simple, but their folds, holes and visible information need to agree with the packaging. A sample product or labelled diagram makes an EZ Print enquiry much clearer.
Define what the piece must hold or explain
Describe whether the printed item closes a bag, hangs independently or sits against the product. State whether it must carry identification, instructions, a message or a code. Keep that purpose separate from the visual style so the important information remains available after attachment.
If a header card folds over the top of a bag, identify the actual usable width and the fold direction. For a tag, show how it hangs and which side customers see first. A decorative mockup can hide the area taken by the attachment.
Measure the real product and packaging
Use the intended bag or product rather than an approximately similar example. Record the bag opening, product thickness and any existing holes or seams. If several product sizes share a tag, test the smallest and largest examples to see whether one format is sensible.
Ask for the confirmed construction before final artwork. Do not assume that a hole, crease, staple, string or fastener is included because it appears in an illustration. List the printed card and each attachment or assembly requirement separately.
Make the folded and open views agree
Sketch the header card flat and folded. Label the front, reverse and inside if present. Mark the fold and show the top edge of the artwork on both sides. This prevents a readable flat design becoming an inverted reverse once the card is assembled.
Put essential text away from the fold, holes and attachment area using the job-specific clearances. For a hang tag, leave room for the attachment to move without hiding the main product identifier. If the design includes a code, check its position in the completed pack rather than only in the flat artwork.
Review the information as product content
Check names, variant labels, care text and any customer instructions against approved source information. The printing brief should contain the final wording; it should not ask the printer to infer product claims from a reference photograph. Obtain any required professional review separately before approving the artwork.
Adobe’s bleed explanation helps distinguish edge artwork from trim. A bleed allowance does not define a crease or hole position, so confirm all three details for the actual construction and use the agreed template.
Proof the assembled example
Make a simple dummy and attach it to the intended product or bag. Check the viewing sequence, whether the piece obstructs opening, and whether the important text remains visible. Use this exercise to identify practical questions; it is not proof of the strength or behaviour of the proposed production material.
Browse packaging products and request a quote with dimensions, quantities per version and photographs of the intended attachment. State whether the request is for printed pieces only or an assessed assembly arrangement. Confirm the precise stock, finishing and included parts before treating the item as a complete pack.
