- What it is
- A graphic printed on a purpose-made carpet film and rolled down onto a carpeted floor — an exhibition aisle, a hotel ballroom, a conference walkway. The face is heavily textured so it does not become a slick patch in the middle of a carpet, and the adhesive is aggressive enough to hold onto a pile that is constantly trying to push it back off.
- What it is printed on
Carpet-grade self-adhesive film. It is a different product from a hard-floor decal and the two do not swap in either direction: hard-floor adhesive will not hold on pile, and carpet adhesive left on a polished floor is very hard to remove cleanly. The texture is embossed into the face rather than added as a laminate, so it is part of the film. Neither material is a sheet the caliper table holds.
- How it feels
- Rubbery and dead matt, with a coarse moulded grain underfoot closer to a gym floor than to a sticker. It is noticeably more flexible than a hard-floor decal, because it has to sink into the pile rather than bridge across it, and it drapes over a seam instead of tenting on one.
- What it suits
- Exhibition halls, ballroom and conference walkways, sponsor aisles and any temporary route across a carpeted venue. It does not suit long-pile or loop carpet, where there is nothing flat for the adhesive to reach, and it does not suit a permanent installation — this is a film for the length of a show, and its removability is the reason to buy it rather than a limitation of it.
- Lead time
- Standard turnaround is 7–14 working days. Installation, where it applies, is scheduled on top of that.
- The common mistake
- Treating the venue’s carpet as your surface. The hall usually owns it, the stand contractor lays it, and both have rules about what may be stuck to it and who pays if it comes up damaged. Ask before the artwork is drawn: some venues allow carpet film anywhere, some only inside the leased stand footprint, and some not at all.

Carpet graphics
A printed film with a high-tack, moulded face made to key into carpet pile, then lifted off at the end of the show without taking the carpet with it.

- The ink.
- The face film.
- The adhesive.
- The release liner, peeled away at the moment of application.
- The carpet pile. The film is on the near face, so nothing protects the print but the laminate over it.
The specification
Six fields, and the last one is the useful one.
The same six questions are answered for every entry in this section, in the same order, so two objects can be compared without reading two pages of prose. The mistake is stated last and stated plainly, because it is the one that costs a reprint and it is the reason this page is worth sending to a colleague.
Where this sits.
Every entry is indexed three ways, because a buyer arrives knowing the occasion, the object or the material and almost never all three.
