What EZ Print prints for a launch

EZ Print is a printing company in Singapore, trading since 2017 and working in the Central Business District. 36 printed objects in this section suit a launch: one evening, photographed heavily, and judged on how it reads in the hand. They span large format, collateral, stands and display systems and signage, and they are made of rigid board, vinyl and film, foil and texture and fabric. Each one below states what it is, what it is printed on, how it feels in the hand, what it suits, its lead time — the one standard window, stated identically on every entry — and the mistake made with it most often. EZ Print quotes from the specification and does not publish prices.

36entries

Every one a real commercial print product, described by what it is made of rather than by what it looks like.

6fields

What it is, what it is printed on, how it feels, what it suits, the lead time and the common mistake. Every entry answers all six.

The shelf

All of it, with the specification attached.

Every entry states the same six things in the same order, so two objects can be compared without reading two pages of prose. The lead time is typical and confirmed on quote; the mistake is the one that costs a reprint.

Fabric and tension Woven panel at finished proportion, 3000 × 2250 mm, in woven display cloth, with the 25 mm the standard silicone-edge profile swallows off every edge drawn at the panel's own scale.

Stands and display systems · Large format

Tensioned fabric backdrop

A woven polyester graphic sewn with a silicone bead and tensioned into an aluminium frame, so the printed surface is flat, seamless across its width and free of glare under a camera.

Standard turnaround is 7–14 working days.

Relief and gloss on a sheet Cotton soft white at 450 gsm, at finished proportion, 148 × 105 mm, carrying a block strike, drawn as relief because foil colour is not simulated, shallow, with the 3 mm keep-out from the trim drawn at the same proportion.

Collateral

Foil-blocked invitation

A single heavy card struck with a heated brass block, so the mark is a mirror set slightly below the surface of the sheet. It reads by reflection and by touch rather than by colour.

Standard turnaround is 7–14 working days.

Film, in section, on its surface Section through a 5-layer film applied to the near face of glass: the ink on the face. Layer order and count, not layer thickness.

Large format · Signage

Window and floor graphics

Printed self-adhesive film applied to glass or to a hard floor. The film is chosen for the surface it has to leave cleanly, and the laminate over it is chosen for what walks on it.

Standard turnaround is 7–14 working days.

Fabric and tension Woven panel at finished proportion, 1200 × 2400 mm, in backlit stretch knit, with the 25 mm the standard silicone-edge profile swallows off every edge drawn at the panel's own scale. Drawn lit from behind.

Stands and display systems · Large format

SEG fabric lightbox

A backlit aluminium frame with a woven polyester graphic tensioned into it by a sewn silicone edge, so the panel glows evenly, the fixings vanish and the frame outlives every graphic it carries.

Standard turnaround is 7–14 working days.

Fabric and tension Woven panel at finished proportion, 600 × 2200 mm, in woven display cloth, with the 15 mm the slim silicone-edge profile swallows off every edge drawn at the panel's own scale.

Stands and display systems · Large format

Modular tower and counter

Two objects from one frame system: a tall skinned tower that is seen across a hall, and a waist-high counter that gives a person somewhere to stand. Both re-skin, both pack into the same case.

Standard turnaround is 7–14 working days.

Fabric and tension Woven panel at finished proportion, 4000 × 1000 mm, in woven display cloth, with the 40 mm the deep silicone-edge profile swallows off every edge drawn at the panel's own scale. One seam is drawn, from the 3200 mm the material is made in.

Stands and display systems · Large format · Signage

Entrance gantry

An overhead frame spanning an entrance or a walkway, carrying a printed header above the crowd and a wrap on each leg. It is the element at an event that everybody walks under and most people photograph.

Standard turnaround is 7–14 working days.

A printed drop Printed drop at finished proportion, 3000 × 2000 mm, with the 100 mm allowance the rope and toggles takes drawn at the same proportion. One seam is drawn, from the 1600 mm the material is made in.

Stands and display systems · Large format

Branded pop-up gazebo

A folding scissor frame under a printed canopy, with optional printed back and half walls. It goes up without tools on a pavement and packs into a wheeled bag, and the valance does most of the reading.

Standard turnaround is 7–14 working days.

A printed drop Printed drop at finished proportion, 1000 × 2800 mm, with the 250 mm allowance the sewn pole pocket takes drawn at the same proportion.

Stands and display systems · Large format · Signage

Teardrop and feather flags

A printed sail sleeved onto a flexible pole and held by a spike or a weighted base. It is read as a shape and a colour long before anybody reads a word on it.

Standard turnaround is 7–14 working days.

A printed drop Printed drop at finished proportion, 1000 × 2150 mm, with the 80 mm allowance the cassette takes drawn at the same proportion. The sightline is drawn at 600 mm.

Stands and display systems · Large format

Premium pull-up banner

The same idea as a roll-up, built to be reloaded: a heavier base, a cassette that opens, and a tensioned rail top and bottom that takes the wave out of the face.

Standard turnaround is 7–14 working days.

No plateThe product is a snap frame and a water-fillable base; the print in it is a plain poster in a slot with no layer order, no relief, no allowance and no edge specific to it. If a standard poster size is ever committed to the panel table this can carry a drop — until then the frame is the thing worth photographing, not drawing.

Stands and display systems · Signage · Large format

A-frame pavement sign

Two hinged panels that stand on their own, holding a poster behind a snap frame. The frame outlives every poster it carries, so the running cost is the sheet and nothing else.

Standard turnaround is 7–14 working days.

Film, in section, on its surface Section through a 4-layer film applied to the reverse face of a clear acrylic panel and read through it: the ink on the reverse of the face film, which is why the file is mirrored. Layer order and count, not layer thickness.

Stands and display systems · Signage

Acrylic standoff sign

A clear acrylic panel held off the wall on barrels, with the graphic printed on the reverse face so it is read through the panel and protected by it. The default reception-wall treatment.

Standard turnaround is 7–14 working days.

Rigid panel, at the core Section through foam-cored display board — a cellular core under two thin liners, its core repeat drawn at the plate scale of 0.4 mm to 6 px. The depth is structure and is not to scale.

Stands and display systems · Large format

Life-size standee

A printed figure cut to its own outline and stood on a folding strut, so a person or a product appears at full size in a room. The cheapest object on a stand that people photograph themselves beside.

Standard turnaround is 7–14 working days.

Fabric and tension Woven panel at finished proportion, 4000 × 2400 mm, in blockout cloth, with the 25 mm the standard silicone-edge profile swallows off every edge drawn at the panel's own scale.

Stands and display systems · Large format

Modular backdrop wall

A bolt-together aluminium wall skinned in tensioned fabric, assembled straight, curved or cornered from the same parts — and the step-and-repeat media wall built on the same frame for a camera.

Standard turnaround is 7–14 working days.

Film, in section, on its surface Section through a 5-layer film applied to the near face of glass: the ink on the face, pierced at a nominal 50 per cent open area drawn through every layer. Layer order and count, not layer thickness.

Large format · Signage

One-way vision window film

Perforated film that reads as a solid graphic from the street and as a window from inside. The holes are the product: they are what the eye outside ignores and what the eye inside sees through.

Standard turnaround is 7–14 working days.

Film, in section, on its surface Section through a 3-layer film off the liner: no ink in the stack — the colour is in the film. Layer order and count, not layer thickness.

Signage · Large format

Cut and contour-cut vinyl graphics

Film cut to the shape of the artwork rather than to a rectangle: lettering, logos and decals with no background at all. The edge of the graphic is the edge of the shape.

Standard turnaround is 7–14 working days.

Film, in section, on its surface Section through a 4-layer film applied to the near face of carpet pile: the ink on the face. Layer order and count, not layer thickness.

Large format

Carpet graphics

A printed film with a high-tack, moulded face made to key into carpet pile, then lifted off at the end of the show without taking the carpet with it.

Standard turnaround is 7–14 working days.

A printed drop Printed drop at finished proportion, 3000 × 1500 mm, with the 100 mm allowance the sewn pole pocket takes drawn at the same proportion. One seam is drawn, from the 1600 mm the material is made in.

Large format · Stands and display systems

Ceiling-rigged banners

A printed drop hung from the structure above rather than fixed to anything below it. The graphic is the simple part; the rigging rules, the load and the window to work in are the job.

Standard turnaround is 7–14 working days.

A printed drop Printed drop at finished proportion, 6000 × 2000 mm, with the 60 mm allowance the hem and eyelets takes drawn at the same proportion. One seam is drawn, from the 3200 mm the material is made in.

Large format · Signage

Mesh banners

A banner with holes in it, so the wind passes through rather than pushing against it. On an exposed elevation the mesh is not a compromise on the image — it is what keeps the banner and its fixings attached to the building.

Standard turnaround is 7–14 working days.

Rigid panel, at the core Section through hoarding plywood — a stack of cross-laminated veneers. The depth is structure and is not to scale. A run of 6000 mm is drawn above it as 5 fixed modules.

Large format · Signage

Construction hoarding graphics

Printed panels fixed to the timber hoarding around a site, working as a fence, an advertisement and a piece of the street for as long as the works run.

Standard turnaround is 7–14 working days.

Film, in section, on its surface Section through a 5-layer film applied to the near face of a painted vehicle panel: the ink on the face. Layer order and count, not layer thickness.

Large format · Signage

Vehicle wraps and part wraps

Cast film conformed over a vehicle’s panels, curves and recesses. A full wrap changes the colour of the vehicle; a part wrap puts the message where the panels are flat and leaves the difficult geometry alone.

Standard turnaround is 7–14 working days.

Rigid panel, at the core Section through paper honeycomb board — a hexagonal-cell core between two bonded liners, its core repeat drawn at the plate scale of 10 mm to 6 px. The depth is structure and is not to scale.

Stands and display systems · Signage

Honeycomb board panels

A paper-cored rigid board: two liners bonded to a honeycomb of paper cells. Stiff for its weight, printable directly, and at the end of the show it belongs in the paper stream rather than the plastic one.

Standard turnaround is 7–14 working days.

Rigid panel, at the core Section through twin-wall polypropylene — a twin-wall section with flutes standing between two skins, its core repeat drawn at the plate scale of 4 mm to 6 px. The depth is structure and is not to scale.

Signage · Large format

Fluted polypropylene panels

The corrugated plastic board used for short-life outdoor work: waterproof, light, quick to fix, and honest about being temporary. Sold under trade names including Correx and Coroplast.

Standard turnaround is 7–14 working days.

Film, in section, on its surface Section through a 5-layer film applied to the near face of a wall: the ink on the face. Layer order and count, not layer thickness.

Large format

Wall murals

A wall covered edge to edge with a printed graphic, hung in panels with matched joins. The decision that matters is not the image but what the wall is made of and how the mural has to come off it.

Standard turnaround is 7–14 working days.

Relief and gloss on a sheet Matt art card at 400 gsm, at finished proportion, 90 × 54 mm, carrying a spot varnish with a hard edge, standing proud of the sheet, at a standard depth, with the 3 mm keep-out from the trim drawn at the same proportion.

Collateral · Packaging

Raised spot UV

A clear varnish screened onto chosen areas of a matt sheet and cured hard, so a mark stands proud of the ground. It is found by a fingertip before it is read by an eye.

Standard turnaround is 7–14 working days.

Relief and gloss on a sheet Kraft board at 350 gsm, at finished proportion, 90 × 45 mm, carrying a block strike, drawn as relief because foil colour is not simulated, at a standard depth, with the 3 mm keep-out from the trim drawn at the same proportion.

Collateral · Packaging

Foil blocking on kraft and dark board

A heated brass block releases an opaque metallic or pigment layer onto a brown or dark sheet. It is the one mark that reads cleanly on a stock with no white in it, and it needs no underprint to do it.

Standard turnaround is 7–14 working days.

A sheet, at the cut edge Cut edge of bonded duplex at 600 gsm bonded, drawn at the estate scale of 1 mm = 22 px: 0.72 mm. The edge is painted by hand and drawn as a band rather than as a line. 2 sheets bonded, with 1 seam drawn.

Collateral

Painted-edge card

Colour applied by hand to the guillotined edge of a stack and left to cure, so the card carries a band of colour nobody expects to find there. The edge does the work and the faces can stay quiet.

Standard turnaround is 7–14 working days.

A sheet, at the cut edge Cut edge of bonded triplex at 900 gsm bonded, drawn at the estate scale of 1 mm = 22 px: 1.24 mm. The edge is left as the guillotine leaves it. 3 sheets bonded, with 2 seams drawn.

Collateral

Bonded duplex and triplex card

Two or three sheets laminated face to face to reach a thickness no single sheet in the range gives. The bond line shows as a stripe along every cut edge, and on a coloured core that stripe is the point.

Standard turnaround is 7–14 working days.

A sheet, at the cut edge Cut edge of bonded triplex at 900 gsm bonded, drawn at the estate scale of 1 mm = 22 px: 1.24 mm. The middle ply is a colour, drawn as the stripe it makes around the whole silhouette. 3 sheets bonded, with 2 seams drawn.

Packaging · Collateral

Coloured-core swing tag

A tag cut from bonded board with a coloured middle ply, so the only colour on an otherwise plain piece is the stripe running round its edge and ringing the cord hole.

Standard turnaround is 7–14 working days.

Relief and gloss on a sheet Cotton soft white at 450 gsm, at finished proportion, 90 × 54 mm, carrying a deboss, sunk into the sheet and lit from below right, deep, with the bite showing on the reverse, with the 5 mm keep-out from the trim drawn at the same proportion.

Collateral

Letterpress card

A relief plate inked and pressed into a soft, thick sheet, so the image is printed and impressed in the same action. The bite can be read from the back of the card with the eyes shut.

Standard turnaround is 7–14 working days.

Relief and gloss on a sheet Felt-marked text at 300 gsm, at finished proportion, 105 × 148 mm, carrying a blind emboss, raised out of the sheet and lit from above left, at a standard depth, with the 5 mm keep-out from the trim drawn at the same proportion.

Collateral · Packaging

Blind emboss and deboss

A matched pair of dies presses a sheet into relief with no ink and no foil. It is the only finish that survives being photocopied, faded or reprinted, because there is no colour in it to lose.

Standard turnaround is 7–14 working days.

A sheet, at the cut edge Cut edge of matt art card at 350 gsm, drawn at the estate scale of 1 mm = 22 px: 0.36 mm. The edge is left as the guillotine leaves it. A soft touch film is drawn over the face.

Collateral · Packaging

Soft-touch laminated cover

A rubberised matt film bonded over the print, with a micro-textured surface that reads as suede under a fingertip. It is the most-noticed finish in a stack and the one that shows every mark.

Standard turnaround is 7–14 working days.

Film, in section, on its surface Section through a 6-layer film off the liner: the ink on the face. Layer order and count, not layer thickness.

Packaging · Collateral

Holographic and metallised substrates

A mirror or a diffraction pattern under the ink instead of white paper behind it. Every colour printed on it becomes a tint of the metal, which is the effect and also the trap.

Standard turnaround is 7–14 working days.

A flat net, scored and cut Flat net at finished proportion, 120 × 120 mm, in uncoated woodfree at 400 gsm: a shaped cut contour. Nothing here folds, so no caliper is drawn at a fold and none is claimed.

Packaging · Collateral

Die-cut shapes

Steel rule bent to a shape, set into a forme and pressed through the sheet. It makes the cuts a guillotine cannot make, and the shape you get is the shape a rule can be bent to.

Standard turnaround is 7–14 working days.

A sheet, at the cut edge Cut edge of kraft board at 350 gsm, drawn at the estate scale of 1 mm = 22 px: 0.46 mm. The edge is left as the guillotine leaves it.

Collateral · Packaging

Kraft and uncoated texture

Two sheets with nothing on top of them: unbleached kraft, brown the whole way through, and uncoated woodfree, where the ink dries into the fibre instead of sitting on it.

Standard turnaround is 7–14 working days.

A sheet, at the cut edge Cut edge of laid text at 120 gsm, drawn at the estate scale of 1 mm = 22 px: 0.17 mm. The edge is left as the guillotine leaves it.

Collateral

Textured and laid paper

Three different ways a sheet gets its surface — formed in the sheet, marked while wet, or embossed after making. The difference decides what survives being printed on it.

Standard turnaround is 7–14 working days.

Relief and gloss on a sheet Matt art card at 400 gsm, at finished proportion, 90 × 54 mm, carrying 3 passes struck in register — a blind emboss, raised out of the sheet and lit from above left, then a block strike, drawn as relief because foil colour is not simulated, then a spot varnish with a hard edge, standing proud of the sheet — with the tolerance between them drawn, with the 5 mm keep-out from the trim drawn at the same proportion.

Collateral

Combined finishes on one card

What happens when a sheet carries more than one finish: the order the passes have to run in, the tolerance that stacks up across them, and the pairs that simply refuse to share a card.

Standard turnaround is 7–14 working days.

Three ways in, and the other two are still open. The same entries are catalogued by occasion, by object and by substance, because a buyer arrives knowing one of the three.

Narrow it another way.

If nothing here is the object you had in mind, the other two indexes hold the same entries under different headings.
