A printed notepad is a stack of branded sheets glued along one edge into a tear-off pad. EZ Print glues memo sheets into pads of 50 or 100. The decisions that matter are the sheet size, the paper that suits a pen, the number of sheets and how the artwork stays clear of the glued head.

What is a custom printed notepad?

A custom notepad is a block of printed sheets glued along one edge so that each sheet tears off. Memo sheets are printed first, then padded into the pad by gluing the head. It is sold under several names, including memo pad, writing pad, desk pad and tear-off pad, so describe the use when you enquire.

Because the pad is a finishing operation on printed sheets, a notepad is quoted from the same specification as other stationery: sheet size, paper, colours, quantity and the number of sheets per pad. The business stationery page lists the paper stocks and the padding operation.

How many sheets and what size should a notepad be?

Memo sheets are glued into pads of 50 or 100. A5 148 × 210 mm and A4 210 × 297 mm are the two sizes EZ Print lists for padded books, and a notepad is quoted at the size in your specification. Choose the sheet count from how the pad is used: a shorter pad is used up sooner, and a longer one stays in place.

Choice Option Consequence
Sheets per pad 50 A shorter pad, used up sooner
Sheets per pad 100 A longer pad that lasts between reorders
Size A5 148 × 210 mm The smaller sheet, half of A4
Size A4 210 × 297 mm The larger sheet, with more room to write

The sheet count and the size are stated together in the enquiry, because a change in either one changes the quote.

What paper is best for a notepad?

Uncoated woodfree is the stock held for anything written on. A coated sheet resists a pen, and the same applies to heavy lamination, so a notepad that will be written on belongs on uncoated paper rather than on gloss or matt art paper. The paper weight is confirmed against your specification.

If you plan to compare sheets before you commit, the paper and material sample comparison explains how to judge a sample in the hand. Test the pen you expect people to use, since a fountain pen and a ballpoint behave differently on the same sheet.

How is the artwork set up for a padded pad?

Set the artwork at trim size and keep text and logos away from the glued head. On padded NCR books the artboard has no bleed, because the book is trimmed as a block, and the safe margin is 10 mm all round and 20 mm at the head where the glue sits. A notepad has a glued head too, so ask for its margins.

A notepad sheet is written on, so leave the writing area clear and keep any solid colour or heavy tint away from it. Fonts should be outlined, and a print-ready PDF/X-4 is preferred. If you want a card back behind the pad, say so in the enquiry: on padded books the card back gives the user something to write on when the book is held in one hand.

Worked example: branded A5 meeting pads for a seminar

Hypothetical planning example. Actual production timing, paper availability, and logistics are confirmed individually upon artwork and specification review. An organisation is running a seminar and wants branded A5 pads at each seat, carrying the event logo in one corner and a blank writing area below. Each pad is meant to be filled during the day.

  • Quantity: 200 pads, one design.
  • Size: A5 148 × 210 mm.
  • Sheets per pad: 50, glued at the head.
  • Paper: uncoated woodfree, weight confirmed in the quotation.
  • Artwork: print-ready PDF/X-4, fonts outlined, logo kept clear of the glued head, writing area left blank.
  • Backing: a card back, if wanted, stated in the enquiry.
  • Needed by: the seminar date, stated on the enquiry.

Standard turnaround is 7–14 working days, with padding as a separate pass inside it. Express is quoted per job.
