What EZ Print prints for specialty paper

EZ Print is a printing company in Singapore, trading since 2017 and working in the Central Business District. Uncoated, cotton, kraft, laid, linen and felt — sheets chosen for what the hand reports. 9 objects in this section are made of it, across collateral, packaging and signage, and they are bought most often for launch, retail, conference and food and beverage. Each one below states what it is, what it is printed on, how it feels in the hand, what it suits, its lead time — the one standard window, stated identically on every entry — and the mistake made with it most often. EZ Print quotes from the specification and does not publish prices.

9entries

Every one a real commercial print product, described by what it is made of rather than by what it looks like.

6fields

What it is, what it is printed on, how it feels, what it suits, the lead time and the common mistake. Every entry answers all six.

The shelf

All of it, with the specification attached.

Every entry states the same six things in the same order, so two objects can be compared without reading two pages of prose. The lead time is typical and confirmed on quote; the mistake is the one that costs a reprint.

Relief and gloss on a sheet Cotton soft white at 450 gsm, at finished proportion, 148 × 105 mm, carrying a block strike, drawn as relief because foil colour is not simulated, shallow, with the 3 mm keep-out from the trim drawn at the same proportion.

Collateral

Foil-blocked invitation

A single heavy card struck with a heated brass block, so the mark is a mirror set slightly below the surface of the sheet. It reads by reflection and by touch rather than by colour.

Standard turnaround is 7–14 working days.

Relief and gloss on a sheet Kraft board at 350 gsm, at finished proportion, 90 × 45 mm, carrying a block strike, drawn as relief because foil colour is not simulated, at a standard depth, with the 3 mm keep-out from the trim drawn at the same proportion.

Foil blocking on kraft and dark board

A heated brass block releases an opaque metallic or pigment layer onto a brown or dark sheet. It is the one mark that reads cleanly on a stock with no white in it, and it needs no underprint to do it.

Standard turnaround is 7–14 working days.

Relief and gloss on a sheet Cotton soft white at 450 gsm, at finished proportion, 90 × 54 mm, carrying a deboss, sunk into the sheet and lit from below right, deep, with the bite showing on the reverse, with the 5 mm keep-out from the trim drawn at the same proportion.

Collateral

Letterpress card

A relief plate inked and pressed into a soft, thick sheet, so the image is printed and impressed in the same action. The bite can be read from the back of the card with the eyes shut.

Standard turnaround is 7–14 working days.

Relief and gloss on a sheet Felt-marked text at 300 gsm, at finished proportion, 105 × 148 mm, carrying a blind emboss, raised out of the sheet and lit from above left, at a standard depth, with the 5 mm keep-out from the trim drawn at the same proportion.

Collateral · Packaging

Blind emboss and deboss

A matched pair of dies presses a sheet into relief with no ink and no foil. It is the only finish that survives being photocopied, faded or reprinted, because there is no colour in it to lose.

Standard turnaround is 7–14 working days.

A flat net, scored and cut Flat net at finished proportion, 120 × 120 mm, in uncoated woodfree at 400 gsm: a shaped cut contour. Nothing here folds, so no caliper is drawn at a fold and none is claimed.

Die-cut shapes

Steel rule bent to a shape, set into a forme and pressed through the sheet. It makes the cuts a guillotine cannot make, and the shape you get is the shape a rule can be bent to.

Standard turnaround is 7–14 working days.

A sheet, at the cut edge Cut edge of kraft board at 350 gsm, drawn at the estate scale of 1 mm = 22 px: 0.46 mm. The edge is left as the guillotine leaves it.

Collateral · Packaging

Kraft and uncoated texture

Two sheets with nothing on top of them: unbleached kraft, brown the whole way through, and uncoated woodfree, where the ink dries into the fibre instead of sitting on it.

Standard turnaround is 7–14 working days.

A sheet, at the cut edge Cut edge of synthetic stock at 200 micron, drawn at the estate scale of 1 mm = 22 px: 0.20 mm. The edge is cut by a steel rule, so every internal corner arrives with a radius in it.

Collateral · Signage

Synthetic stock menus and tags

A printable plastic film with no fibre in it, so there is nothing for water to swell and nothing to tear along. It is specified for anything handled wet, handled outdoors, or handled thousands of times.

Standard turnaround is 7–14 working days.

A sheet, at the cut edge Cut edge of laid text at 120 gsm, drawn at the estate scale of 1 mm = 22 px: 0.17 mm. The edge is left as the guillotine leaves it.

Collateral

Textured and laid paper

Three different ways a sheet gets its surface — formed in the sheet, marked while wet, or embossed after making. The difference decides what survives being printed on it.

Standard turnaround is 7–14 working days.

A flat net, scored and cut Flat net at finished proportion, 210 × 99 mm, in matt art card at 350 gsm: 2 scores, 1 perforation run, a rectangular cut contour. The bead of every score is drawn on the inside of the bend, and the caliper at the fold is 0.36 mm.

Collateral · Packaging

Perforation and scoring

Two operations that are constantly confused. A score is a channel pressed into the sheet so it folds without cracking. A perforation is a line of cuts and ties so a part comes away straight.

Standard turnaround is 7–14 working days.

Three ways in, and the other two are still open. The same entries are catalogued by occasion, by object and by substance, because a buyer arrives knowing one of the three.

Narrow it another way.

If nothing here is the object you had in mind, the other two indexes hold the same entries under different headings.
